PHARMACY / DISPENSARY


GENERAL INFORMATION

Public Pharmacies available in Tobago include those at the:
- Scarborough Regional Hospital Pharmacy
- District Pharmacies located at Roxborough, Canaan/Bon Accord, Plymouth and Scarborough Health Centres; with mobile pharmacies located at Outreach Centres.

The Hospital Pharmacy is opened on weekdays between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.

- OUT-PATIENTS: Out-patients may have their prescriptions processed once they are presented before 1:00 pm
- IN-PATIENTS: In-patient prescriptions must be presented at the Pharmacy between the hours of 8:00 am and 2:00
pm. Collection time for such prescriptions is 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
- STAFF: Staff prescriptions must be presented before 10:30 am for collection between the hours of 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm . Prescriptions presented at 10.30 AM will be processed on the following working day.

Patients are to ensure that the following information is indicated on their prescriptions before presenting them at the Pharmacy Department:
1. Patient Name (legible and correctly spelt)
2. Patient Registration Number
3. Date of Birth
4. Doctor's Name (must be legible)

Patients will be provided with sterile plastic bottles for liquid medication (e.g. Paracetamol Syrup, Diphenhdramine Elixr, Salvonetc.).


KNOW YOUR MEDICATION

Avoid the use of alcohol while taking oral medication, especially:
- Antibiotics
- Anti-hypertensives

The following painkillers (analgesics) should be taken after meals:
- Diclofenac (Olfen)
- Ibruprofen (Motrin)
- Aspirin

To reduce the risk of developing Antibiotic Resistance, one must ensure that the entire
prescribed course of antibiotics is taken even if symptoms subside.

The following should be kept refrigerated at all times to maintain stability:
- Antibiotic Suspensions
- Insulin

Patients taking anti-hypertensive or anti-diabetic agents should have their blood pressure/glucose levels monitored regularly and recorded for presentation during their pharmacy/clinic visit.

Blood Pressure and Glucose Level Monitoring can be done at any health center or retail pharmacy.

Medication for external use should be used for no more than 3 - 5 days, UNLESS advised by a physician. If symptoms persist, one must contact their physician.

Adverse reactions to any of the prescribed medications should be reported to the physician as soon as possible.

The pharmacist may be contacted for any queries or concerns about the medication being taken.

Eye/Ear Preparations are not stable beyond thirty (30) days after opening. They should be discarded thereafter.
